What should I bring when having clothes fitted?
Always bring the correct undergarments, shoes and/or belt (specific to types of alterations and garments fitted). We can’t guarantee the correct fit if, for example, you choose to have the pant length marked wearing a pair of athletic shoes when actually you’ll be wearing a pair of heels, or you wear a bulky sweater when having a sport coat fitted when actually you’ll be wearing a dress shirt.
Do I need an appointment?
Since our business is drop in, appointments are only required for brides.
Do my clothes have to be cleaned first?
This question has a 2-part answer:
All previously worn items must be cleaned (laundered or dry cleaned, per manufacturers instructions) prior to being altered or repaired, including items covered with pet hair or odors such as cigarette smoke. This policy is to protect other customer’s merchandise, our staff and equipment.
Jeans or other pants (to be hemmed) are recommended to be cleaned prior to alterations if made from natural fabrics such as cotton, linen or wool to eliminate the shrinkage before hemming. We wouldn’t want you to be disappointed if your pants shrink after alterations, resulting in pants that are too short for you to wear.

Can you quote prices over the phone?
On basic alterations we can usually give quotes over the phone if you can be specific as to the alterations required and construction of the garment; i.e., a lined blazer that needs the sleeves shortened. Specific quotes will be given at the time of the fitting. Quoting prices on bridal and social wear is difficult over the phone due to the variety of design, construction and detail finishes involved.
How long do alterations take?
On basic alterations, the turn-around time is usually 1 week (except during peak times) and we do try to accommodate most rush requests. If more than one fitting is required or if you need a garment for a specific event, please allow at least 2 weeks or more.
When do I pay for the alterations?
To insure that Altered States is paid for the work performed and on a timely basis, we do charge for alterations/repairs up front. On larger orders we do request at least 50% of the cost as a down payment. We currently accept cash, check, Visa, MC and Discover.
